Anthropic has announced Claude Duet, a new AI agent app built for mobile devices. As reported by Webtekno, the app's headline capability is tracking and completing users' everyday tasks. Claude Duet has been released for Android and iOS, though not everyone can download and use it yet.
What Claude Duet does
Unlike a traditional chat assistant, Claude Duet is designed to monitor and carry out tasks inside the apps a user has connected to it. That marks a shift from a model where the user asks questions and gets answers to one where the assistant keeps certain work moving on the user's behalf.
Another notable feature is that the app can keep working when the user isn't at their computer. A task that has been started doesn't stop when the user puts their phone away or walks away from their desk; the agent continues following it in the background.
Who can get access
According to ShiftDelete.Net, the app is live on Android and iOS. For now, however, access is offered through a waitlist for users subscribed to Anthropic's Pro and Max plans. TechCrunch also reports that access is limited. No date has been announced for when the app will open to everyone.
Opening a new product to a limited group first is a common approach among tech companies. It gives them a chance to gather feedback and refine the service before a wider rollout.
The competitive landscape
Webtekno notes that Claude Duet is positioned against other AI agents with similar capabilities, including Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots. All three share the same goal: helping people manage their digital tasks with less hands-on effort.
TechCrunch frames the app as Anthropic's bet on agents. That framing reflects how competition among major AI companies is no longer only about model quality, but also about how much everyday work those models can actually take on.
Why it matters
Claude Duet is one more sign that AI assistants are moving toward working more autonomously. An agent that can follow tasks while the user is away from the screen has the potential to turn the phone from a communication device into a personal assistant that gets things done.
That promises real productivity gains, and it also raises new questions. As products like this spread, there will be more discussion about what data an agent working inside connected apps can access, which steps it can take without the user's approval, and how mistakes get caught.
With Meta and OpenAI already in the field with similar products, competition in mobile AI agents looks set to accelerate. Once Claude Duet moves off the waitlist and into general availability, it will become clearer how reliable these agents are for everyday work.
